Description: The Mississippi River Buffer data is used for Planning/Zoning purposes for Winona County's zoning ordinance update of 2011. The area within the buffer is considered to contain intrinsic natural and scenic qualities of the bluffs along the Mississippi River.
Description: This data is typically comprised of areas containing geographic features: Upland terraces or bluff tops within 1000 feet from the terrace or bluff edge; terraces within within 500 feet of rivers or streams; terraces above floodplains; lower terraces back to the toes of bluffs with views of rivers and streams; and isolated hilltops with good views of the surrounding landscape.
Copyright Text: The predictive model produced by the Minnesota State Archaeologist portrays these features as having the greatest likelihood of containing archaeological sites and unplatted burials especially for locations in the Mississsippi River Valley.
Description: This layer is used for Zoning/Planning purposes for Winona County's Zoning Ordinance. Development within these lands should be limited to prevent disturbance of prime soils within the County. This data set is a digital soil survey and generally is the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information. This data set consists of georeferenced digital map data and computerized attribute data. The map data are in a 3.75 minute quadrangle format and include a detailed, field verified inventory of soils and nonsoil areas that normally occur in a repeatable pattern on the landscape and that can be cartographically shown at the scale mapped. A special soil features layer (point and line features) is optional. This layer displays the location of features too small to delineate at the mapping scale, but they are large enough and contrasting enough to significantly influence use and management. The soil map units are linked to attributes in the National Soil Information System relational database, which gives the proportionate extent of the component soils and their properties.
